“Crows and Ravens”

Susan Hargrove is an Ashland, Oregon native. Many years ago, Susan moved to Sacramento, CA to pursue art education as her career. Susan’s dream has been to come back to her home town with an exhibition of her paintings.
The focus of her show, “Crows and Ravens”, is a result of her fascination and curiosity about these birds. Their behavior, antics and beauty provide a valuable resource to poets, myth makers, folkloreists and artists in general that use them symbolically. They are entertaining, highly intelligent and loyal, but also they are scavengers, teasers, and can even be vicious. In this series, Susan has combined a primitive and expressionistic way to tell her own stories about the Crows and Ravens.

I am so excited to be showing my new paintings at the Hanson Howard Gallery, Ashland, Oregon, July 3- July 31,2015.

I grew up in Ashland, Oregon and it has been a dream of mine to show at my favorite art gallery the, Hanson Howard Gallery for many years. Thank you to Judy Howard. gallery owner, curator and a renowned artist, my dream is coming true!

First time showing my  'Crow and Raven' series. I have been researching the crow and raven behaviors and antics in their every day lives, mythology, and folk lore. Along the way playing and experimenting with some of my favorite painting and sculpting art materials. I have created a series of paintings that tell my own visual crow and raven stories. I love working with beeswax and resin, and this has added a 3 D effect to some of the details in the paintings.

I look forward to seeing family, friends and classmates

My show is dedicated to my Sassy, Baby, Sis, Carrie, who I love and miss very much every single day.
